The most over-the-top weapons in Call of Duty history
Wipe away the gunpowder dust—we're opening Call of Duty's forbidden archives. What do we find inside? Terrifying instruments of unimaginable destruction. And no, we're not talking about Modern Warfare III 's new zombie mode . Now, with some disgust, let's take a look back at the five most over-the-top weapons in Call of Duty history.
5. 205 Brecci

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
The crimes
Our first culprit is the infamous 205 Brecci from Black Ops 3. This weapon had to be fired twice to kill an enemy, even at close range. That actually sounds pretty bad for a shotgun. The problem? The range of this two-shot killer was far too great. Add in a high rate of fire, which could be further increased with mods, and a dash of quickly enraged enemies, and you have the perfect sour CoD cocktail.
It was this incredibly simple use that made the Brecci so frustrating. Users simply had to fire the weapon once, without any precision, across a room or hallway, mowing down everything in sight. Anyone planning to equip this infamous monstrosity would be well advised to disable voice chat entirely.
4. M16 or AK-74u

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on consoles and PC.
The crimes
For many gamers, the M16 was the epitome of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. This surprisingly deadly starter assault rifle combined pinpoint accuracy with high damage and a rapid rate of fire. Simply equip the penetration and attach a red dot sight, and you were ready to go. So it wasn't uncommon to see the majority of gamers on a server running around with an M16.

On consoles, the M16 was the undisputed king. But on PC, it had a worthy rival. In the competitive community, the AK-74u assault rifle proved to be an unconventional rival in the fight for the throne. Oddly, the weapon performed best without any attachments, achieving optimal stats. It quickly became the first choice for fast maneuvers, allowing players to dash around corners and clear tight areas with deadly bursts.
3. MP-40

Call of Duty: World at War.
The crimes
The MP-40 is probably the only Call of Duty weapon that single-handedly managed to turn an entire game on its head. World at War was, all things considered, a fairly well-balanced title—apart from that infamous behemoth of a submachine gun. Not only did it deal damage that rivaled most rifles, but it also offered the opportunity to replace the otherwise almost essential penetration perk with interesting new options like the Juggernaut.
But that's not all! The MP-40 could also be combined with a 64-round drum magazine. So, to recap: the mobility of a submachine gun, the damage of a rifle, and a larger magazine than most light machine guns. This made it the Swiss Army knife of Call of Duty weapons. But unfortunately, it was used by just about every player.
2. Grenade launcher

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
The crimes
At this point, we apologize to all veteran players for the unpleasant flashbacks. Dubbed the "Noob Tube" by veteran players, the grenade launcher was an attachment considered so abominable that players using it on Call of Duty 4 PC servers were frequently kicked and permanently banned. The distinctive thump of an explosive charge leaving its barrel terrified all nearby gamers. The massive explosion that followed practically guaranteed a kill, and if even one player used the grenade launcher, the match quickly descended into anarchy.

And somehow, the pipe's reign of terror was even extended in Modern Warfare 2. Cunning gamers discovered that they could refill grenade launchers with the "One-Man Army" perk—giving them a never-ending supply of killer canisters to throw around the map. It quickly became an unwritten rule between opponents that neither side would use the grenade launcher. Thus, it became the Call of Duty equivalent of nuclear deterrent—a rather confusing concept for a game where you could literally drop a nuclear bomb on your enemies.
1. Akimbo Model 1887s

The crimes
Modern Warfare 2's armory is a treasure trove of great pieces for the museum of overpowered curiosities. To your left: the ACR, a rifle with such low recoil it's practically a laser beam. To your right: the UMP-45, a submachine gun with such devastating damage that it puts many rifles to shame. But no other weapon was as entertainingly overpowered as the Model 1887.
This ancient lever-action rifle was in a league of its own. Two of them with the akimbo attachment? That practically made the gamer a gaming god. And the worst part: They were actually fun to use. The narrow alleys of Favela were full of these whirling death-guns, and even at medium range, both rifles could be fired simultaneously to take down opponents in a split second. Eventually, developer Infinity Ward had to bring out the Nerf hammer to put an end to their dominance. But for a brief time, the most modern high-tech rifles were overshadowed by their centuries-old great-grandfather.
These overpowered Call of Duty weapons are now under lock and key – but with Call of Duty gaming gear from HyperX, you can still gain the edge over your opponents.
